The Pursuit of Happiness

Yellow is a happy color. One spring my husband looked around our neighborhood and said, "I like those yellow flowers. What are they called again?" "Daffodils," I replied. "Oh yeah," he said, "You should plant some."

Well, at that time, I was a little busy taking care of our three boys, who were all five years-old and younger. Needless to say, gardening wasn't on the top of my list. But that fall, something happened. My husband brought home several bags of daffodil bulbs and planted them around our yard. My husband is very much a manly-man, but there's just something about 'those yellow flowers' coming up after a cold winter that makes him happy. I, on the other hand, was just happy that I didn't have to do all of that planting. But I will admit, seeing the results of his labor every year (pictured above) does bring a smile to my face.

This gorgeous 'songbird quilt' bedding from Pottery Barn (above) will add a burst of sunshine to your bedroom even on a cloudy day. Below, a cheery yellow office (Behr Paint), could make paying bills a little more bearable.

A Passion for Purple

Most of us can claim a favorite color. It’s the one when everytime you see it -- even in the midst of other colors, you immediately spot it and you’re always drawn to it. My favorite color is purple – pale lilac, deep eggplant and everything in between. Purple is the color of royalty and spirituality. Its always in style. So, to celebrate my very first post, I just couldn’t resist indulging myself.

Featured are two very stylish bedrooms that use two very different values of the color purple. The bedroom pictured above is by Sherwin-Williams. Here, robust purple (Blackberry) walls are flanked by energetic blue and green accessories. I love that lamp!

In contrast, the bedroom pictured below by Benjamin Moore highlights a soft, muted grayish-purple (Bonne Nuit). Its paired with an organic shade of green (Elemental) to achieve an alluring, serene space.

I love that both rooms exhibit how purple can be paired with different shades of green and other unexpected hues to make a stylish statement regarding color courage. I’m ready to take a nap in either space!

And finally...

I'm loving this modern kitchen by DD Allen. It's icy-lavender finishes work great with the stainless steel. Very urban chic!
